On the 4th of July our small town grows from a population of 3,000 people to nearly 6 trillion. It is the biggest holiday of the year around here. Everyone decorates their houses and there is an endless party all through the weekend. People come from across the state to join in our parade and festivities. We started the day with the parade, sand castle contest, and a walk around the fair. We ended the day with friends, good food, homemade rootbear, and a big fireworks show launched from the end of the pier. (We also had a few fireworks of our own, but don't tell anyone...they are illegal around here....and the cops were on the hunt for violators...which makes it even more fun!)
Most people in our town prepare for the parade several days in advance by setting up chairs or securing their spots with police tape. We just wedged ourselves to the front and laid out a blanket.

When one of the floats got behind and caused a gap, Noah took advantage of the opportunity to dislodge some long lost parade candy...Probably cemented to the road by multiple fire trucks.

After the parade we walked to the beach to see the results of the morning's sand castle contest. Some of these sculptures were amazing works of art!.
